Shortly before 10:00 a.m. on April 15, 2014, Louisiana State Police began investigating a two vehicle fatal crash that occurred on LA Hwy 70 south of LA Hwy 22 in Ascension Parish. The crash took the life of 36-year-old Shelby G. Johnson of Napoleonville.

The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Johnson was driving northbound on LA Hwy 70. At the same time, 40-year-old Donna Dunaway of Gonzales was driving southbound on LA Hwy 70 in a Mack dump truck.

For unknown reasons Johnson’s northbound car crossed over the center line into the southbound lane of travel and struck the Mack truck head on.

Despite the fact that he was wearing his seatbelt Johnson sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash.

Dunaway was properly restrained and was uninjured.

Driver impairment is not suspected for either driver at this time; however, toxicology samples were taken from both drivers and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
