According to Entergy strong winds and driving rain knocked down trees and power lines at several locations in the city. On Jefferson Highway, non-functioning traffic lights left many impatient drivers stuck in traffic. We saw several sets of crews working to restore power and get rid of downed trees immediately after the storm. For many residents in the area, it seems like déjà vu. First Gustav and then just last week, more damage courtesy of Mother Nature.
Joanne Buckel witnessed the storm and says, “We’ve had a terrific downpour in the last five days and now we have an electrical storm and we’re under a tornado watch. Think people are really looking at our weather entirely different than what we’ve ever done before.”
There’s been no reports of anyone seriously injured in East Baton Rouge from today’s storms. Some residents tell us they plan to remove some of their largest trees so they don’t pose a future threat when the next severe weather rolls around.
