GEISMAR, LA (NBC33) — A vinyl plant in Geismar will be closed through May due to an explosion that happened last week.
The explosion and fire came from an area of Westlake Chemical that makes parts for plastic pipe. The fire was under control in just a few hours and no one was hurt. But as you can imagine there was a lot of damage.
Officials at Westlake Chemical tell NBC33 News that the plant will be closed through mid-May.
The estimated clean up costs run between $5 and $7 million.
