Two new low income housing units are set to open up in Baton Rouge. Today city leaders broke ground on the Autumn Place and Willow Creek Townhomes.

Once completed Baton Rouge will see 84 new individual units. These townhomes will replace what used to be the Hospital Plaza and Colonial Court Housing Units.

CEO of East Baton Rouge Parish Housing Authority Richard Murray says demolishing the old units was a good economic decision for the parish.

"We did an analysis of what it was going to cost us to take us to rehab the units versus new units,” he explained. “And we just new that it was in our best interest to demolish and rebuild the units."

Construction on both Willow Creek and Autumn Place Townhomes is scheduled to be completed by December 2012.
