NBC NEWS — According to Japanese media reports, Sony plans to cut 10,000 jobs worldwide.
Japanese media report that the cuts will occur over the next year as Sony tries to return to profit. The cuts amount to six percent of its workforce.
Sony is grappling with substantial losses, stemming partly from weak sales of its televisions.
A Sony spokesperson has not confirmed the reports, but the company plans a press conference this Thursday, April 12.
Earlier this year, Sony reported a loss of more than two billion dollars for its October through December quarter.
