One Louisiana parish amongst the poorest regions in the country

East Carroll Parish — Louisiana’s East Carroll Parish was ranked the 12th poorest parish or county in the United States according to a survey by MainStreet.com.
It is among the top 15 poorest areas of America, and is the only parish in the state in that category.
East Carroll has a poverty rate of over 40 percent and has a median income of nearly $25,000 a year. The parish also has lost around 17 percent of its population between 2000 and 2010.
Four counties in Mississippi also made the list.
