LSU, Saints losses bad for business

There's no denying the correlation, when home teams suffer losses, so does local business.

"Huge deflation. Especially after LSU and the Saints," said Jeff Fendlason, general manager at Walk-Ons on Coursey. "People stop spending and hit the door."

Within seven days, local business catered to sports shifted from college and superbowl champion plans, to off-season mode.

"We'll be alright," said Clay Valentine, manager at Hooters on Siegen. "Even though the home team lost -- both of them. That was a tough hit."

Local business is fighting back, marketing special deals to bring in the crowds and also by trying to capitalize on the NFL season that remains.

"Giving away a 42-inch LCD t.v., win that by drawing," said Valentine. "Next friday, $1,000 giveaway, and $100 every hour."

Football season is the biggest draw, but they're not the only game in town. LSU baseball and NBA basketball draws their loyal fans. And warm weather opening up outdoor seating, coupled with 40 days of Lent, is always a boon for business.

"Weather gets warmer, move into Lent, crawfish," said Fendlason. "It'll definitely pick up."
