Louisiana is getting more than $25 million to help the homeless in the state.

The money is coming from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Almost $2,000 is coming to St. Vincent de Paul shelters in Baton Rouge.

Michael Acaldo with St. Vincent de Paul says the money will go a long way in helping the homeless get back on their feet.

“This is not going to pay our light bill,” Acaldo explained. “This is not going to help keep the beds warm at our shelter, but it will provide critical support services to help us give a hand up to homeless men, women, and children in our community.”

Money is also going to help shelters in Lafayette, Lake Charles, and New Orleans.
