Mixed news for future CATS passengers
BATON ROUGE, La (NBC33) – Good news and bad news came last night for those who ride the Baton Rouge city bus.
The Metro Council voted to approve cuts to CATS. This means there will be no fare increases and weekend service will continue. There will also be continued service to Baker and Zachary. But there’s only enough money left to fund CATS for 10 more months.
CATS has a $1.2 million hole in their budget. One councilman believes that if a solution is not found soon, riders will be severally affected.
"It means that at the end of September and into October CATS will run out of money if something isn't done, something isn't found and the whole bus system will shut down," Smokey Bourgeois said to NBC33 News at last night’s meeting.
Bourgeois went on to say that as of now, CATS is scheduled to be in the red in October.
