Missouri highway overpass crumbles when trains slam into support structure
NBC NATIONAL NEWS — Two trains collided in southeast Missouri Saturday, causing a highway bridge to collapse.
Seven people were injured.
The early morning crash left two trains mangled at the highway m bridge between Scott City and Chaffee, Missouri.
"You hear the metal crashing and crumbling and everything and I come out on the front porch, and my son looked at me and said 'Dad the overpass is gone,' and I looked up and the overpass was indeed gone," said Woody Woods, who lives nearby.
Woods says what happened next was eerie.
"Then we heard the squeal of car tires and a crash and a horn started blowing non-stop, so I yelled at him and told him to call 9-1-1. And we ran out and tried to block it off but we couldn't and came back around and the train was on fire," Woods said.
