MORGANZA, La (NBC33) — The Army Corps of Engineers says they're expected to raise one or more bays on the Morganza Spillway today.

The first bay was opened just after 3:00pm Saturday.  A second was raised several hours later.   Each bay diverts water from the rising Mississippi to the once dry Atchafalaya Basin.

The corps says they expect to open about a quarter - or 30 - of the bays.

Inundation maps show the basin will be under as much as 25 feet of water.
