New Orleans, La (NBC33) — The U.S Army Corps of Engineers says they may open the Morganza this weekend.

They say the trigger to open is at a flow rate of 1.5 million cubic feet per second at Red River Landing.

As of 7 this morning, the flow rate was 1.45 million cubic feet per second, and forecast to reach the 1.5 million trigger this weekend.

The Corps is monitoring weather conditions and river conditions to determine if operation of the structures is necessary to ensure the safety of the Mississippi River and Tributaries system and the impacted populated areas.
