Assumption Parish Schools closing early

The Assumption Parish School Board confirmed today schools will close this week, because of flooding concerns. The schools will let out at their regularly scheduled times this Friday, but students will not return for the remaining three days of the school year next week. Teachers and administrators will still report to work through Thursday, May 26th.

The School Board says flooding in neighborhoods throughout the parish could make students' commute to schools dangerous. Two middle schools have also been designated as shelters for flood victims. Those schools are Napoleonville Middle and Belle Rose Middle.

High School students are taking final exams today. The School Board voted to wave Middle School exams this year.

Jennifer Crockett sits down with Superintendent Earl Martinez today to find out more about the closures. We also talk to residents about how they are preparing. Tune in to NBC33 News at 10pm for that report.

If you have any questions about your child's school, contact your principal.
