A group of Michigan school superintendents are working to assist the Buena Vista School District in getting students back to school.

Twnety-seven teachers were laid off Monday because there is not money to pay them.

That means no school for students.

"My heart goes out to the students. There are students that went to school last week and expected to go to school this week and I anguish over that," said Superintendent Craig Douglas of the Carrollton School District.

Neighboring school leaders met Wednesday to brainstorm ways to make sure kids in the district can complete the school year.

"We know that right now they're not in school and right now it's our intent as a total county to see what we can do about getting them back in school," said Superintendent Richard Syrek of the Saginaw Intermediate School District.

School administrators are not commenting on the nature of the plan but say they hope to present something to the public by the end of the week.
