MI lawmaker wants to allow abuse victims to have guns in 'gun free-zones'
SAGINAW, MI (NBC) — A Michigan lawmaker wants abuse victims to carry guns, even in "gun free-zones".
Schools, churches and malls are among the gun-free zones State Representative Tim Kelly wants to change for abuse victims.
"Over 85-percent of women are victims of domestic violence," Kelly argues. "Over 75-percent of women are stalking victims."
Saginaw, in Kelly's district, was recently named "The Most Dangerous City for Women" by Forbes Magazine.
"I felt like this would be a good piece of legislation to take care of a vulnerable population," he says.
But not everyone agrees.
