The projected Medicaid deficit in Louisiana just keeps rising.

State health officials now say the mid-year shortfall will be $308 million bucks. The poor, elderly, and disabled, benefit from the health care program.

Health and Hospitals Secretary Alan Levine has suggested transferring dollars from public and mental health institutions to fill the gap.

Lawmakers will discuss the options. Levine blames the deficit on swine flu cases and the recession that's put more people into the Medicaid program.
