Maryland lawmaker proposes bill to make it illegal to post explicit picture of someone on web without permission

The explosion of social media and sexting has opened the door to a practice that one lawmaker wants to criminalize.

Delegate Jon Cardin said Tuesday that Maryland needs to enact serious consequences for so-called revenge porn. He described that as when someone posts online explicit pictures of someone else -- perhaps a former spouse, girlfriend or boyfriend -- without his or her consent.

Cardin said it's currently too easy to ruin someone's reputation with the click of a mouse.

Social networking sites make it simple to see what others are up to in real time, but IT editor Sean Gallagher said what goes up with the click of a mouse is likely lodged in cyberspace forever.
