If you rode around Baton Rouge Saturday, you might have seen a lot more purple and gold than usual. That's because thousands of LSU students are "Geauxing Big."

Raking and shoveling, these LSU Tigers are getting their hands a little dirty, but for a good cause.

That's because these students are giving back and "Geauxing Big." It's part of the university's Geaux BIG Baton Rouge initiative, where nearly 2,000 students went to more than 70 locations around Baton Rouge to volunteer their time and help out.

"I think the coolest part about this organization is that we are bringing the LSU community with the Baton Rouge community," said Margaret Price, the student director of Geaux BIG Baton Rouge.

Alex Mouton is a senior at LSU. She said volunteering has been a huge part of her college experience.

"I think it's good to get our name out there saying it's good that we get involved in the community, and we're not just focused on our education," Mouton said. "I think that it's great that we're doing a lot of different things. We're not just honing in on one volunteer opportunity,"

"The work really varies from painting, yard work, to interacting with children and shelter animals," Price said. "So, we really have a wide range of projects."

That's what some LSU faculty members, like Women's Basketball Coach Nikki Caldwell, said it's all about.

"The one thing that I say about being a great leader is that you've got to be of service to others. It's a very thankless job in a sense, but a very worthwhile job for these young students to come out and just be of service to the community," Caldwell said.

This is the 2nd annual Geaux BIG Baton Rouge event. If you want to learn more about the organization and see where they helped out you can go to the link below:

Whats wrong with this picture? I see alot of students cleaning up a black cemetary and only two blacks in the group, why , dont the famlies of the deceased care about their own family members at all, its a shame so little thought is given after death to family members , people just dont care anymore...Its nice to see young kids care more than family members and terrible as well...
