Livingston parish senior citizens now know what to look out for to avoid becoming scam victims.

Today, dozens of people went to the "Seniors and Lawmen Together” (SALT) crime expo.

Law enforcement officers from across the parish warned scammers target seniors.

They say if someone calls you with an offer or a prize that sounds too good to be true it probably is, and you should "never" give out any personal information on the phone.

"Most people don't do business over the phone any more. If someone calls and says I need your bank account number; your bank is not going to do that," Livingston Parish Sheriff, Jason Ard told NBC33.

"If they ask them to send money oh you've won such and such but you have to send money they need to be aware of that, because if they win something they shouldn't need to be paying anything," SALT council member Betty Carol explained.

Senior citizens were able to visit several information booths to learn about fraud, and get Medicare information.

Seniors did get to let loose and dance a little, but they took the warnings very seriously.
