Dr. Brooks Cronin can't believe voters in Colorado and Washington were the first group in the United States to approve the recreational use of marijuana when they went to the polls on Tuesday. It's a decision he feels is going to cause more people to experiment with harder drugs.

"The surgeon general came down to Lafayette, Louisiana and said marijuana led to heavy drug use, which is cocaine. It'll affect your head and brain," says Cronin.

"Holland, the Netherlands. They have legal marijuana in that country and yet drug usage is less there than in surrounding European countries," says Wes Benedict, a member of the libertarian party in Louisiana.

Benedict favors the legalization of marijuana. With the United States having the highest incarceration rate in the world and Louisiana having the highest in the United States, he says if marijuana was legalized law enforcement could focus their energy on violent offenders.

"If we ended this, not only would it be more humane to a lot more people, but we would save a lot of money on incarcerating people, the criminal justice system could focus on crimes of violence and theft instead of victimless crimes," says Benedict.

And with the state facing constant budget cuts to education and health care, he knows it could also be a step towards balancing the state's budget.

"If we legalized and taxed marijuana just like alcohol and tobacco, crime would go way down, but tax revenue for the government would go way up," says Benedict.

But Cronin says instead of legalizing marijuana to balance the budget, Cronin says all it takes is a little bit of fiscal responsibility.

"But as far as raising money on whatever, cut the spending. They’re spending like crazy up there," says Cronin.

and how do I know this? well my boyfriend is a stone and he has to smoke weed in order to keep on a healthy weight I mean he is 6 foot 5 and he is under 170 ibs.

Weed needs to be legal in the United States. here are my reasons. 1. It will stop all these people from doing way worse drugs that are ilegal. 2. It will help Americas economy. 3. there will be alot of happy stoners. ( about all the bad drugs, weed is not bad. I mean how many stoners you know that gets up and robs a bank, or kills people. No, they just sit on there ass stoned out of there mind and rumming through the house looking for food to eat.

The People of Louisiana Can Legalize Medical Cannibals in Louisiana. Its" WE THE PEOPLE" Not you the Alcohol Billionaires that OWN the SOUTHERN POLITICIANS. Make it to were the PEOPLE can VOTE on it! Make A Manditory State 20% sales tax & A 15% City tax that is to go directly to Police and Sheriff depts.

The argument that marijuana is a gateway drug does not make any sense. Nearly half of the country admits to trying marijuana, but only 10% of the country admits to trying cocaine. If marijuana is really a gateway drug anymore than alcohol is (which about 80% of the country admits to trying), then some number close to the remaining 40% should have also moved on to cocaine.

Here are some Prohibitionist Lies (refuted with Facts) you'll be hearing.

Lie #1 Gateway Drug.
FACT Marijuana is NOT a Gateway Drug. Here's a 12 Yr Univ. Study that says so;.
Andrew Hryckowian - University of Pittsburgh.
www.pitt.edu/~ugr/Hrych2.pdf
Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Raven-... Marijuana is not a.
“gateway” drug.

Lie #2 Marijuana is addictive.
FACT Marijuana is no more addictive and less harmful than Caffeine;.
Dr Henningfield is a former NIDA Staffer;.
Addictiveness of Marijuana - ProCon.o

I have advanced spinal cord injuries and damage, the current drugs needed to treat this and LIVE!? ITS TIME! The effects of ALL THOSE narcotics with the ONLY CHOICE when it just STOPS WORKING! INCREASE THE DOSAGE!!! For those who day to day life belongs to pain and learning to LIVE again...MJ the ONLY WAY!

Louisiana needs to get with the times and stop looking at outdated incorrect information. Marijuana only leads to hard drug use because it is illegal, thus a dealer for marijuana is the most likely place to find hard drugs. Legalizing would lower hard drug use and give the state more money to spend on education.

I agree I suffer from chronic depression and I'm also suicidal bipolar. As long I'm smoking marijuana; I'm in a perfectly normal better state. When I'm sober, I smoke two packs of cigarettes per day to help me cope. I refuse to take pill medication; because I'm afraid I'll get addicted. Plus I believe in natural healing. It's a new generation and this will either bring WWIII or world peace. It's a matter of bullshit with what everyone is saying about it. Can I get an amen for saying this.

Thank you Dr. Cronin, for being a voice of reason and sanity on this subject. I am afraid yours will be a lonely voice, unfortunate indeed for our children and grandchildren.

"Dr. Brooks Cronin ... is going to cause more people to experiment with harder drugs."

Is 'Dr.' Cronin aware of the relationship between the selective war on drugs and the consumption of cigarettes which kill nearly 500,000 people annually just in the USA:

"The surgeon general came down to Lafayette, Lafayette Louisiana and said marijuana led to heavy drug use which is cocaine. It'll affect your head and brain," says Cronin.

That is a complete lie. Anyone who has smoke pot can tell you. Stop using the scare tactics from Refer Madness, pot doesn't cause black men to rape white women anymore, that went away in the 50's
