Tax reform recommendations could be critical for future of state’s revenue
BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — Tax reform is coming up for the state legislature for the first time in a few years, but any changes need to be meaningful.
Today, Barry Erwin, President of the Council for a Better Louisiana, addressed the Baton Rouge Press Club with recommendations on how to make our state more economically competitive.
He says there needs to be a critical assessment of the situation, because the future revenue of the state depends on these changes.
“Data is absolutely critical to this assessment and debate,” he said. “This reform as it's been described to us so far will affect every taxpayer, every business, every local government in the entire state. Not one of us is not going to be impacted in some form or another by what we've just seen with this."
Erwin says the state needs transparent, credible and trustworthy data so it can assess the actual impact before making any permanent changes.
