Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — With two days to go in the state's legislative session, a nearly $25 billion budget is approved.
The spending plan will finance state government operations next year, and the final version restored $200 million the house had proposed to cut.
The budget gives Governor Bobby Jindal much of what he wanted funded, but not in the fashion he proposed to pay for it.
Lawmakers stripped dollars Jindal wanted from prison sales and a retirement increase on state employees. Instead, senators used federal funds and other one-time dollars to plug the gap.
