As more information about the proposed effects of the St. George incorporation come to light, more city-parish leaders are taking a stand against it.

The president of the Baton Rouge Firefighter's Union is raising some serious questions about what taking millions from Baton Rouge's budget means for firefighters’ jobs.

"We're out there for the citizens, but if we lay people off, we're riding short on trucks, it's less response time, not as many people show up on a fire scene, which can mean life or death for the firefighter or the resident," said Shane Spillman, Union President.

And mayor president Kip Holden isn't staying quiet on the issue either.

"They're saying they're going to have to build six new schools, and they keep saying they're not going to have to raise taxes, well ok then, sprinkle your magic dust and see whether you're going to get six new schools. It's not going to happen," said Holden.

But St. George supporters are invited everyone to meet with them Thursday night so they could answer those questions.

"This is our opportunity to actually have them hear from us why we're doing this and what it really means. We really want to cut through a lot of the clutter tonight and get down to why we're doing this and what it means," said Lionel Rainy, supporter of the St. George incorporation.

They're sure that once people hear what their economists have to say on the issue then fears may be put to rest.
