BATON ROUGE, La (NBC33) — Jay Brassard always takes the time to vote when elections come around, "It's our God-given right. Everybody's got a voice. You can't complain about things that are going on if you don't vote."
But when it comes to voting early that's an entirely different story. So why does he wait until the last minute to cast his ballot? "I guess I'm just waiting for a little more information. I said I was well informed, but I'm still looking for more information to make me lean toward one candidate or the other," says the Baton Rouge native.
Early voting has been going on for about a week and wraps up Saturday. Some people are taking full advantage of the opportunity to beat the October 22 election day rush, "Well, I have other commitments and I want to make sure I vote and I don't want to be pressed and it's eight o'clock in the evening and I haven't voted," says one Baton Rouge resident.
She didn't want to give her name, but she does know why some people haven't voted yet or may not even vote at all,"A lot of people feel demoralized and others feel like their needs are already being met."
Eighty-eight year old Charles Severance says he never misses an election. It's a duty the World War Two veteran takes very seriously, "I've always tried to vote. I tried to be a good citizen."
