Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — The focus of redistricting shifted from the Louisiana House of Representatives to their Senate brethren today.
Some of the changes could affect not only the number of majority-minority districts, but also the entire Acadiana region. Majority-minority districts are those whose Caucasian population is less than 50 percent.
One of the more popular Senate plans was presented by Senate President Joel Chaisson. It recommends adding one district to North Louisiana and one to the river parishes district. This change would increase the number of majority- minority districts from ten to 11. Chaisson’s plan is currently one of four plans being considered by the Senate and Governmental Affairs Committee. After the committee decides on a plan, it next needs approval from the Senate legislators
