Voters in Port Allen will soon be making a big decision that could take the city in a new direction when they choose their next mayor.

Last week, former Mayor Deedy Slaughter decided to run for mayor again, even after being recalled in a November 2013 special election.

This week, we introduce you to another candidate in that race: Richard Lee III.

Lee is a retired police officer and lifelong resident of Port Allen.

He says he wants to help reunite the city into "one Port Allen."

His goal, if elected, is to bring stability back to the mayor's office.

"Main message is that I want to run the city in a positive and progressive direction so that we can move forward. I want the city of Port Allen to not only be a good city, but a great city for everyone," Lee said.

Lee also said that if elected, he would like to provide more career development opportunities for city employees and focus on economic development along Court Street and Highway 1.
