People in Ascension Parish are pushing to keep a local post office from shutting its doors.

The U.S. Postal Service says they're in the over $5 billion in debt, and it's causing them to consider closing smaller, more local post offices like the one in Duplessis on Highway 621.

People in the community say they love their neighborhood post office, and are asking why the USPS would close a location that means so much to their community.

More than 3,500 post offices across the country are in danger of being shut down.

In Baton Rouge, the Istrouma branch could shut down. Elsewhere in the state, two post offices in New Orleans, one in Alexandria, along with one in Lafayette and Lake Charles could also close.
