East Baton Rouge Parish (NBC33) — People who live off Hoo Shoo Too Road in East Baton Rouge have seen enough development over the years and want to keep their area rural, away from the commotion of the city.
"We have cows, horses and goats in the area," said Ann Tuttle, who lives nearby.
A developer bought 90 acres of land on Hoo Shoo Too, and has plans of building a high-density development, but first needs a zoning change approval by the City-Parish.
Neighbor's showed in large numbers to Monday's Planning and Zoning meeting to voice disapproval of any plans that would allow for large-scale housing developments.
"Taking 90 acres and building 600 houses absolutely dilutes our rural estate community," said Angel McCarstle.
No one ever had the chance to be heard. The developer asked for the item to be deferred for 90 days.
If Monday is any proof, a large crowd will be waiting in February, to take the issue up again.
"In 90 days he hopes not as many will be here," McCarstle said. "I think he'll be unpleasantly surprised and we'll have more here."
