BATON ROUGE, La (NBC33) – Heated discussions marked the first day floor debates in the House of Representatives concerning redistricting.
The House began the process of going through the more than 25 amendments to the bill.
Rep. “Bodi” White of Denham Springs told NBC33 that the Baton Rouge area has made major gains since the previous census, “the metro area, we gained one state representative. We gained one in Livingston. Livingston, Ascension and st. James split, so we have a net gain of three in the metro area of Baton Rouge.”
The House will continue going through the amendments on Wednesday. The Senate has their turn tomorrow to begin their debate on redistricting. Rep. Michael Jackson says, the capital city could see some changes there as well, “there’s a possibility that a senatorial seat will come near Baton Rouge, if not into Baton Rouge.”
