Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — An economic development fund would be gutted under budget plans approved today by the House Appropriations Committee. This strips revenue proposed by Governor Bobby Jindal that's tied to other pieces of legislation.
Commissioner of Administration Paul Rainwater believes the committee is acting "fiscally irresponsible".
Some of the areas affected by these cuts include Veterans Affairs and Pre-K through Twelfth Grade education. Rainwater says these cuts are unacceptable.
According to the Department of Education these proposed cuts will result in a ten million dollar reduction in student scholarships from the Education Excellence Program.
