BATON ROUGE (NBC33) — Due to the closure of courthouses as a result of winter weather conditions, Louisiana Secretary of State Tom Schedler announced that qualifying for the Spring Municipal Elections, which were scheduled to begin Wednesday, has been suspended for select Louisiana parishes and will be extended an additional day.
The following seven parishes have suspended qualifying on Wednesday, February 12th: Bienville, DeSoto, LaSalle, Ouachita, Richland, Union and West Carroll.
Qualifying will be extended in these parishes on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 from 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. to make up for the suspension.
Monday, Feb. 17, is a federal holiday, Presidents’ Day, and clerks offices will be closed, so no qualifying will take place that day.
All other qualifying will be held as normal beginning Wednesday, February 12 and ending Friday, February 14th in unaffected areas of the state.
All candidates for local municipal races qualify with their local clerk of court. Once qualified, candidates will appear on the Secretary of State’s website.
Spring Municipal Primary Elections will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2014, and Spring Municipal General Elections will be held on Saturday May 3, 2014.
