The voting hasn’t wrapped up yet in Port Allen.

They will have another election to look forward to on December 8 - a runoff election that will decide the mayor for the next four years.

The run-off is set between incumbent Roger Bergeron and challenger Deedy Slaughter.
Slaughter did take more votes, but lacked the fifty percent of the vote needed to take the seat.

Bergeron has only held the position of mayor for a year – he was elected in a special election last November. He says he's not surprised by the run off, but still feels he's still the right man for the job.

“Once I go out and re-establish my qualifications and my experience with the voters in direct comparison to that experience and qualifications of my opponent, hopefully we'll change some minds,” stated Bergeron.

The winner of the runoff must take 50 percent plus one vote to win.

Bergeron's challenger, Deedy Slaughter, couldn't be reached today by phone for comment.
