A majority of voters in Port Allen, LA, have decided to recall Port Allen Mayor Demetric 'Deedy' Slaughter. The embattled mayor and Port Allen’s City Council have been at odds since she took office January 1, 2013.

Slaughter has faced quite a bit of criticism. She was accused of using tax payer money to take a trip to Washington, D.C., to attend President Obama’s inauguration ceremonies earlier this year. She was also accused of giving herself a pay raise valued at $20,000 without council approval.

Two Port Allen residents filed a recall petition on Friday, June 7, 2013 with the Louisiana Secretary of State’s office. They quickly collected the needed signatures to force a recall election.
The Louisiana Attorney General’s office certified the signatures, and Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal signed an order, setting the recall election for Saturday, November 16, 2013.

No word on when she will be removed from office.

1,452 (56.85%) people voted for the recall, and 1,102 (43.15%) voted against the recall.
