Office of Group Benefits worried about privitization
Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — The Office of Group Benefits administrators are concerned about the governor's proposal to sell their organization to a private company.
In a statement from the governor's office, Commissioner of Administration Paul Rainwater said this privatization would be beneficial for taxpayers.
State senators and OGB administrators say such a move could cost Louisiana workers up to 300 jobs.
"If you have a problem at OGB, you call over there on Florida Boulevard and get your problem taken care of,” stated Senator Butch Gautreaux. “But the company that was awarded that contract, their call center is in India.”
Privatization of OGB could also make retired state employees have to look for insurance at other companies.
