BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — Mayor President Kip Holden speaking out against the crime fighting committee that was formed just days after the metro council shot down his bond proposal.
Mayor Holden tells NBC33 News that the committee plans to put together a bond issue only for curbing crime, and he feels that isn’t the right move to make.
Holden says a majority of the money in the bond issue is going to raises and other operational costs.
“To put in a bond issue - salary increases for people - adding more people onto staffs and paying retirees then giving people pay raises - that's unheard of anywhere in a bond issue in America,” Holden said.
On Wednesday, Aug. 24, Mayor Pro Tem Mike Walker told NBC33 News a dollar amount hasn't even been discussed for the proposal.
