A group of Louisiana citizens, wearing bright green T-shirts with a message of Vote No on HB 705, rallied at the state capital this morning to show their support for affordable solar energy and their opposition to the amended HB 705.

HB 705, in its current state, would remove the ability for families to lease solar energy panels, making purchasing the only method of which to obtain them.

"Without the lease option, very few middle and low income families will be able to afford solar energy in Louisiana and these are the families that need this alternative energy source the most. Solar energy significantly reduces the cost of high utility bills, which is one of the biggest burdens on Louisiana families, especially during the hot summer months," said Tom Neyhart, CEO and Co-Founder of PosiGen Solar Solutions. "HB 705 would not only end the lease program in our state, but cost hundreds of Louisiana citizens their jobs. Without work, there is no way to keep people employed. Considering the state of our economy, we can't afford to lose one good paying job. HB 705 started out as a good instrument to further solar energy access in Louisiana, but the amendments that have been added changes the intent of the bill and makes this a bad bill for the citizens of our state, who need access to every resource possible to make utilities affordable."

HB 705 is set to be voted on today by the Louisiana Senate.
