BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — Louisiana Secretary of State Tom Schedler wants to give temporary poll workers a break by making voting days shorter.
Currently, polling hours are from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Schedler says he wants to move the time back an hour, to 7:00 a.m.
The Secretary of State says every time he's taken this issue before the legislature, opposition has told him it makes it harder to attract poll workers.
Schedler says every worker he's talked to about it says one hour would make a big difference.
"That is the number one issue, please try and shorten the work day, it is a long day on a concrete floor of a gym, or in a cafeteria," he told NBC33 News.
Schedler says he expects this idea will pass easier with lawmakers because they're only opening later, and still giving enough time for folks in rural communities to get their votes in.
