Parish officials announced two public information meetings will be held next week concerning a proposed Ascension Parish Road Program that will go before parish voters on Nov. 6.

The parish road program “Lanes For Change” would be funded by a ½ percent sales tax for 25 years. According to project officials, the parish-wide program would address traffic congestion in unincorporated Ascension Parish, which will include construction, acquisition, improvement and maintenance of roads and bridges.

Ascension Parish Chief Engineer Ben Laurie said the first meeting will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 24 at the Dutchtown High School cafeteria from 6 p.m. till 7:30 p.m. Dutchtown High School is located at 13165 Hwy. 73 in Geismar.

Laurie said the second public information meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 25 at the St. Amant Recreation Center from 6 p.m. till 7:30 p.m. The center is located at 45404 Stringer Bridge Rd. in St. Amant.

“This tax proposal will go before the parish voters in three weeks and we want to make sure they are informed about this program,” Laurie said. “We will have engineers on hand to answer any questions.”

Laurie said residents may also access information about the proposed road program at www.lanesforchange.com.
