It's official - Democratic Mayor Kip Holden is once again seeking reelection.

The Mayor-President was greeted by supporters this morning as he promised to continue leading the city in the same direction.

Holden promised supporters he would continue to bring economic development as well as jobs to the area.

The Mayor also touched on the continuing issue of public safety, saying he feels inroads have been made but plans on doing more if reelected.

"We're having a defining moment in our city and our parish,” stated Holden. “Are we going to continue moving Baton Rouge and East Baton Rouge Parish forward? Are we going to keep building the kind of city our children and grandchildren want to call home?"

Holden touted some of his accomplishments, including the Green Light Plan to reduce traffic congestion, and propping up the film and digital media industries locally.

If Holden wins, it will be his last time in office due to term limits.

There are five candidates presently running for mayor in EBR Parish so far. Mayor Pro-Tem Mike Walker, Jim Meyer of Meyer Clothiers, John Conroy of PeStop Do It Yourself Pest Control and Gordon Mese, owner of Garden District Nursery.

The election is November 6.
