Chris Broadwater-R, who is running for representative in District 86, is the victim of phone spoofing, the candidate’s campaign discovered today. Residents in District 86, which includes Tangipahoa Parish, have been receiving multiple phone calls from a person claiming to be from the Broadwater Campaign.

“I want people to know that these calls are not coming from my campaign,” Chris Broadwater said. “I have alerted the police and contacted the local phone company to help get to the bottom of this.”

The Secretary of State’s Office has been notified and a complaint has been filed with the Attorney General.

Phone spoofing is the practice of causing the telephone network to display a number on the recipient's Caller ID display that is not that of the actual originating station.

Broadwater is in a run-off against George Holton.
