LIVINGSTON PARISH, LA (NBC33) — Livingston Parish is talking about an expanded tax break for the developers of Juban Crossing.
The parish council will consider increasing the amount of money it provides for the project by 35 percent. They’re thinking about stepping in because Governor Jindal vetoed a bill that would have used state money to help the mall get off the ground.
Livingston Parish President Layton Ricks told NBC33 News this is the right decision.
"We're not taking anything away from our coffers now. We're not taking anything away from our road program dollars. None. Not one cent. This is all generated in the district, and future dollars that we're talking about."
The increased tax break isn't official yet and the final amount might be smaller than 35 percent.
The parish council will vote on it at their next meeting, which is set for July 25, 2013.
