East Baton Rouge Parish, La (NBC33) — The East Baton Rouge Parish Department of Public Works is taking over litter court, and they want more consequences.
According to the department, anything from a cluttered yard to an illegal sign could cost you.
David Guillory with the Department of Public Works said it all comes down to making the place we call home safer.
"It welcomes crime and mischief, it brings down property values and makes things unsightly, and those are all things the mayor wants to crack down on,” stated Guillory. “So by elimination, you really can kill two birds with one stone, because you can make the city more welcoming to come to."
Fines can go up to $250 in some cases.
The Metro Council will take a look at the consequences and vote on them at next week's meeting.
