BATON ROUGE (NBC33) — The Campaign for Healthcare for Everyone – Louisiana is holding a rally on Wednesday at the State Capitol to urge legislators to support Senate Bill 96, which would allow voters to decide if Louisiana expands healthcare coverage to about 240,000 low-income adults.
Leading the coalition and rally are Senator Ben Nevers, Representative Patricia Haynes Smith, Alma C. Stewart, and the Louisiana Center for Health Equity.
“Expanding access is good for the entire state. From its economy and budget to its businesses and hospitals, extending health insurance to hardworking Louisianans who earn roughly $15,000 a year isn’t just the right thing to do for our state, it’s the right thing to do for our continued economic growth,” said Alma Stewart, Louisiana Center for Health Equity. “The people should have the right to decide our future, not political parties.”
The Senate Health and Welfare Committee is scheduled to hear SB 96 on Wednesday, April 23.
