BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — At the Capital tonight - the state district map is now drawn, but it's not finalized just yet.
That map lawmakers agreed to will now move to the U.S. Department of Justice for final approval.
Although both the House and Senate approve of the final map, members of the black caucus say it's unlawful.
Representative and chair of the black caucus Patricia Smith told NBC33 News that a lawsuit will be filed if the bill is signed. They say the current plan dilutes minority-voting strength.
From there, federal officials will have at 60 days to make a decision.
