State Treasurer John Kennedy weighs in today on the future of the bill that would eliminate state income taxes.

The bill proposed by Senator Rob Marionneaux hopes to get rid of state income tax as a way of attracting more people and businesses to the state. In a vote of 35-4, the Senate approved a study to be conducted on how effective that decision would be for the state.

Today, State Treasurer John Kennedy says the bill should be passed, and the study is an unnecessary waste of time and money.

"We either need to do it, or not do it,” Kennedy explained. “And if we want to get off the bottom and be at the top of some lists for a change that are good instead of the top of the lists for a change that are good instead of the top of the lists that are bad, we need to make some changes in Louisiana and it can be done."

Similar legislation has been passed in Texas, Florida and Georgia. Treasurer Kennedy says in order for that to pass here, it will take political courage on the part of the governor and lawmakers.
