Jindal orders executive order in light of Penn State scandal
Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — The ongoing sex scandal at Penn State is causing Governor Jindal to issue an executive order here in Louisiana.
The order requires all school and university professors, administrators, coaches, and school employees to report child abuse or neglect.
According to the order, police have to be notified within 24 hours after the school staff member sees the abuse.
In the order, the governor said it's critical to be “vigilant in protecting our children and creating a safe environment for them”.
Penn State's long time president and iconic head coach Joe Paterno was fired last week for not going to authorities with suspected sexual child abuse.
Reports say the school didn't do enough once they were told of the alleged sexual abuse of young boys by a former Penn State assistant coach.
