It was an exciting evening for the crowd of people who had gathered at the North Park Recreation Center in Denham Springs Saturday night to support Chief Criminal Deputy Jason Ard. Ard won 62.5% of the vote in the race for Livingston Parish Sheriff, pulling ahead early and staying there all night.

Ard has been with the Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office for 18 years. He says he is both thrilled and humbled by the victory. Ard says becoming the sheriff has been his dream job for years.

"You think about it, but you know it's just not the same until you actually get here," says Ard. "I wish everybody could feel what I'm feeling right now. It's just a wonderful feeling."

Ard says now that the campaign is over, he'll get back to work at the sheriff's office, and take some time to be with his family.

Jason Ard finished with 20,659 votes. Retired State Trooper, Mickey McMorris, came in behind him with 12,387 votes. Pete Aranyosi brought 299 votes and Cookie Billingsley pulled in 218.
