BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) - — After hours of back and forth between City-Parish staff and council, an 8-2 vote put Mayor Holden's bond proposal on the shelf.
In Wednesday's public hearing, Holden gave a presentation to council, which was followed by public comment.
The Mayor says his 750 million dollar bond issue would provide "much needed" improvements to Baton Rouge. Some Council members say they weren't given basic facts of the proposal, while others say it was poorly constructed.
"Baton Rouge can't step forward if we're stuck in a spot now - we're neutral now - I just hope we don't go into reverse", says Holden.
He - along with other Council Members say the issue is too important for the City to leave it up to council. But others say the people they represent already told them they won't vote for it.
