Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — An ad from Mayor Pro-Tem Mike Walker has current Mayor Kip Holden's campaign fuming, with Holden’s campaign calling it “false, unfortunate, and juvenile.”
The ad shows a sound clip from Louis Farrakhan thanking the mayor and police chief for meeting him in New Orleans and bringing him to Baton Rouge.
The Holden campaign said they never had any intention of going negative in this campaign.
In a statement, the mayor stated, “As is customary with high profile visitors to Baton Rouge, public safety measures are handled by the appropriate law enforcement agencies, in this case, the Louisiana State Police and Baton Rouge City Police, without assistance or direction from me or the staff of the Mayor's office.”
Mayor Pro-Tem Mike Walker also released a statement: “If Mayor Holden has a problem with this ad, he should call Minister Farrakhan. I'm sure he has his number. The bottom line is that our tax dollars and police personnel should not be used to escort a private citizen. That's bad policy.”
