Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — Mayor Kip Holden and soon to be former Mayor Pro Tem Mike Walker said the years of negativity between the two of them is in the past.
Both men said they “buried the hatchet” before last night's council meeting.
The former allies became enemies in the year leading up to November's mayoral election. Holden and walker disagreed on what seemed like everything, from spending parish money to crime.
Last night, they said all that's in the past and they're ready to work together.
“We looked at each other, laughed, hugged each other and wished each other very well,” said Walker. “Melvin and Jerry always want the same thing, and that's the best for the parish.”
“We really appreciate the effort you've put forth to make Baton Rouge and East Baton Rouge Parish a better place for all of us to live,” Holden told Walker.
Walker is termed out from being in the Metro Council. After November’s loss, he told us he'll go into the private sector.
Holden won the November mayoral election with 60 percent of the vote. Walker had about 35 percent.
